Originating from a meditative experience by Steven at Sizihwan, Kaohsiung, in 2025.
That day, he sat on the grass where the sea meets the land.
As his consciousness gradually quieted, the boundaries between the sea, the sand, the wind, the sunlight, and his body began to dissolve.
As his palms pressed against the dry earth, repeatedly stroking the soil, a thought naturally surfaced:If the body were to enter the land directly, what would remain?
At that moment, Steven recalled Legend Lin Dance Theater's exploration of the body and the earth.
He also thought of the calligraphy of Tong Yang-tze — how the physical power of the body leaves a trail through brush and ink.
Profound connections began to form between dance, writing, and the ancient land.
A creative methodology thus began to take shape:
Let the body become the tool of creation, let the land participate in the generation of the work, and let movement leave its trace. This concept gradually evolved into "Body of Dust."
'Body of Dust' is a contemporary art practice centered on body, sound, land, and traces.
During the creative process, Steven reduces pre-determined control over movement and visuals, allowing breath, sound, gravity, and the environment to guide the body.
Soil clings to the skin; the body's lowering, rotating, pushing, and stillness leave unpredictable trajectories upon the surface.
The work is not created by the body alone; the land itself participates in its birth.
Therefore, every iteration of "Body of Dust" is inextricably linked to the specific land where it occurs.
When the body releases control and truly encounters the land, what remains?
